I never thought about the bad technology advice I've given, but I'm quite sure I'm guilty of it, as well.

Your first sentence really captured my attention! Yes, that easy button works for you, but maybe not for everyone. My husband and I are good examples of "That's easy!" We both have very different things we like and are "easy" for us when it comes to technology. He is really good with hardware, and doesn't understand when I don't know which cord to use. I'm good with software, and I often help him figure something out with an online program.

Anyway, I agree it's good to not pull out the easy button until they are ready to push it!

Regards,
Denise
Denise Krebshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00583406241247334445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-897534882171291463.post-63702471127561355202015-04-29T22:16:06.387-04:002015-04-29T22:16:06.387-04:00Thanks for the comments. I am instead a fan of discovery learning. How can students discover and be curious if we give them all of the answers ahead of time? With the answers, there is no need for questions. Student curiosity is key to both engagement and long term understandings. But with guided practice, I think students may start needing (and even asking for?!) more time to complete their thoughts. I think if they begin to need more time because they are writing so much it is a good indication that we are helping them progress. It's the stages along the way, the levels if you will, that I struggle with conveying. I want them to ask themselves the right questions to lead them to writing critically.

What are the essential questions students should be asking themselves that will lead to write criticallyTom Krawczewiczhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10634752004037884970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-897534882171291463.post-33827395406227846382013-07-03T08:19:29.345-04:002013-07-03T08:19:29.345-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Tom Krawczewiczhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10634752004037884970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-897534882171291463.post-42470088954793385862013-07-02T23:27:24.307-04:002013-07-02T23:27:24.307-04:00I too like both ideas. Asking students to write down what they would say to the student from another school would promote critical writing, but I don't know if they would really use the time to write critically. Fundamental Five (@LYSNation) requires writing critically daily. I just think we need more time than 5 minutes. I'm continually perplexed with time issues with writing.
